Lifters from North and South Carolina converged on Scranton, Pennsylvania last weekend at the USA Powerlifting RAW Nationals and put on a show that reiterated that fact that the Carolinas is one of the fastest growing regions in the country for USA Powerlifting, as well as one of the most powerful! With a team of over 30 lifters representing the Carolinas, we had 14 lifters on the podium winning gold, while there were 4 silver, and 4 bronze medals awarded. We also had 5 lifters finish in the 4th and 5th place spots.
Keith McHoney once again showed the powerlifting community why he is one of the top powerlifters in the world by taking first in the 66 kg open division, Keith started off the day by squatting 518 lbs., he then went on to bench 341 lbs. and deadlifting 568 lbs.
Regina Hackney had a quick turnaround after competing at the Masters Nationals a few weeks earlier and performed very well. Totaling 496 Lbs., she took first place in the Master 4a division.
Heather Faas, competing at her first National event broke multiple state records in route to a strong 5th place finish. She squatted 253 lbs., benched 143 lbs. and pulled 331 lbs.
Kevin Locklear stood on the podium with a very good 4th place finish in the 74 kg, M1a division, breaking both his squat and deadlift state records.
The Bigham brothers, who both competed in very competitive divisions, performed extremely well with personal records as well as state records falling. Jeff Bigham, continues to get stronger and stronger with every competition, totaling 1543! Donald, who competed in the open, Masters 1a as well as the Police, Fire and Military divisions moved down to 83 kg and won both the Masters as well as the PFM divisions.
