With the Fall Festival of Power wrapping up this past weekend and the USA Powerlifting SC State Championship around the corner with a full roster, it is time to start thinking about the Battle on the Border. The Battle is currently sitting at 61 lifters on the roster, with 72% of our registered lifters hailing from NC as opposed to only 20% from SC. I can imagine that it is tough to think about the next meet before we finish training for the State meet. With that said, our competitions fill up too quickly to wait until the last minute! Please get your entry forms in as soon as possible so our state will be well represented at the Battle.
The Battle on the Border roster will have a cap of 150 lifters this year with no waiting list. If you are not on the roster when we hit that 150 lifter mark, you will not be able to lift this year. Also, this is very important to read: once the roster is full, we will NOT be issuing refunds of any kind (no transfers to other meets or next year's Battle). I will however, offer refunds up until that time. This leads to my next point...
This will be my last year of activity in the sport of powerlifting. After 20 years of involvement, it is time for me to pursue other interests that aren't as taxing on my body. I enjoy shooting shotguns. I think I'd like to do that for a while...
At the SC State Championship, we will have an election for the next State Chair. After deliberation with all of our active referees, we have nominated BJ Faas to be the next State Chair. If there is anyone who would like to run for the position, please let me know via the email link on the website. The National office will conduct an election if anyone would like to run against BJ. BJ has worked very hard to acquire the equipment and knowledge necessary to continue the work that I started 8 years ago. The new State Chair's term will begin after the USA Powerlifting State Championship in December.
Jennifer Thompson will also take over complete responsibility as the sole meet director for the Battle on the Border. Currently, the States of North and South Carolina share the meet director duties. The refund policy will allow me to step away from the meet financially and allow Jennifer to consult with the next SC State Chair regarding the Battle on the Border's future.
South Carolina! Wake up and get your entry forms filled out before we fill up! We have had bragging rights the last two years! Let's keep it in South Carolina!
